Windows only. This app runs through the Scryboard App Runner, a free desktop program that's only available for Windows right now. It won't run on a Mac or Linux computer.

  • Anthropic (Claude) — Billed to your own Anthropic account at console.anthropic.com (prepaid API credit), separate from anything you pay for this app. Each new recap is one or two short Claude Sonnet requests, typically around 1 to 3 US cents. Nothing is sent until you click Generate, and pressing Generate again with nothing changed replays the saved recap instead of paying again.
  • ElevenLabs — Billed to your own ElevenLabs plan at elevenlabs.io, separate from anything you pay for this app. Each recap uses roughly 1,000 to 1,300 characters of text-to-speech from your plan's monthly allowance. A paid plan is needed for the personas' Voice Library voices; see ElevenLabs' pricing page for current plans.

This is separate from what this app costs on Scryboard above — a second transaction, paid directly to each service, that Scryboard is not involved in and does not see.

What makes this different

"Previously On ..." curates the history of your campaign and spins a short, 90 second or so overview of what's already happened ... enough to give your adventurers a short recap without wasting time at the beginning of an evening. Choose from different personas to give it the right gravitas (or ribaldry) that your sessions deserves!

A cold-open audio recap of your campaign so far, narrated in a persona of your choice — generated on demand and played straight through your speakers at the top of the session. Needs your own Anthropic and ElevenLabs API keys.

What this app can access

Reads basic campaign info, the list of past and current sessions, the running "story so far" digest built from confirmed session recaps, clicks on buttons it shows in its own widgets.

Writes dashboard widget output.

On your computer: can play sound through the speakers of the computer it runs on.

Also connects directly to Anthropic (Claude) — reads nothing is stored on Anthropic's side by this app; it only gets back the recap script; writes your campaign's name, its story-so-far summary (built from your reviewed sessions) and the latest reviewed session's synopsis, once per new recap you generate.

Also connects directly to ElevenLabs — reads your account's voice list, to find each persona's voice; writes the recap script (about 200 words), once per new recap, to narrate it.

  • Does not read the live session transcript.
  • Does not read the campaign member roster.
  • Does not write to player character sheets.

Requires your own API keys

  • Anthropic API key — From console.anthropic.com (API keys). Writes the recap script in your chosen persona's voice. Billed to your own Anthropic account.
  • ElevenLabs API key — From elevenlabs.io (Developers, then API keys). Turns the script into the narrated audio. When creating the key, enable only 'Text to Speech' and 'Voices (read)'; nothing else is used.

You'll need to provide these yourself when you install — the App Runner asks for them once and stores them securely on your computer. Any usage costs from that service are between you and its provider; Scryboard is not involved and does not see the cost.

Setup

This app will require a subscription to Eleven Labs for an API of the voices.
