Alpha Tester Terms
Version 2026-10-01. Applies to everyone testing Scryboard during the closed alpha, alongside the terms below.
- Scryboard is in closed alpha testing. It's early-stage software: things may break, and your data may be lost or reset.
- There's no guarantee of uptime, or of continued free access once Scryboard moves to paid tiers.
- You agree to keep the product, its features and anything we share with you confidential, and not to post screenshots, recordings or details of it publicly.
- We may ask for your feedback. By giving it, you agree we can use it to improve the product.
- Scryboard and its operators aren't liable for any issues arising from your use of alpha software.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or otherwise using Scryboard (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you don't agree to them, don't use the Service.
2. What Scryboard is
Scryboard is a live-session companion for tabletop RPG Dungeon Masters — it transcribes table conversation, surfaces prepared content, and lets DMs and players extend it with third-party “apps” through the App Marketplace. Scryboard is currently in active testing; features, pricing, and availability may change without notice.
3. Accounts
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for anything that happens under your account. Tell us if you believe your account has been compromised. You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the campaign notes, session recordings, transcripts, and other material you upload or create (“Your Content”). By using the Service, you grant Scryboard a license to store, process, and display Your Content solely to provide the Service to you and the players you invite to your campaigns.
Scryboard uses AI to transcribe audio and extract structured content from your notes. AI output can be incomplete or inaccurate — you're responsible for reviewing and verifying anything before treating it as accurate campaign canon, which is why extracted content requires your explicit confirmation before being saved.
5. Speech-to-text processing
Scryboard uses a third-party speech-to-text provider, Deepgram, to transcribe live session audio. Scryboard does not retain the raw audio recording once transcription is complete — only the resulting text transcript is stored. Deepgram, as our transcription subprocessor, may retain audio it processes and use it to improve its own services, under its own data policies, independent of and in addition to any setting chosen within Scryboard. This applies to all campaigns unless otherwise stated, including sessions that run on your own AI key, because it is governed by our processing arrangement with Deepgram rather than by Scryboard's own data practices.
6. Data use
Every account has a data-sharing setting: whether your campaigns' session data (transcripts, extracted content, and DM corrections) may be used to improve the accuracy and quality of Scryboard's data tagging. This is chosen when you create your account and can be changed at any time from account settings — turning it off is exactly as easy as turning it on. A change only affects data collected going forward; it does not retroactively delete, mask, or otherwise change how data collected before the change is handled.
The Privacy Policy explains in full what Scryboard collects, who it is shared with, and your choices.
A campaign's data-sharing setting is controlled by its Dungeon Master and applies to every player in that campaign — it isn't something an individual player chooses independently for themselves. Players are asked to agree to the data practice that applies to a campaign before joining it, and again if the DM later changes that setting; declining means not participating in that campaign.
7. Paying for sessions
Campaigns, prep and everything between sessions are free. A Dungeon Master pays for the live sessions they run, by buying sessions in advance; players never pay to play. Prices are shown on the Pricing page in US dollars, plus any tax that applies, and are:
- Sessions on Scryboard's AI — $10 for one session or $60 for eight. Scryboard provides the transcription and all of the in-session AI. Each session can record for up to 6 hours.
- Sessions on your own AI key — $5 for one session or $30 for eight. Scryboard provides the transcription; the in-session AI runs on your own account with a provider you choose (see “Your own AI key” below). Each session can record for up to 12 hours.
Payments are processed by Stripe; Scryboard never sees or stores your card details. Sessions you buy don't expire, have no cash value, can't be transferred to another account, and are lost if you delete your account. We may change prices in future; a change never affects sessions you have already bought.
When a session is used
Starting a session costs nothing, and neither does a false start. A session uses one of your sessions once it has been in use for 10 minutes after you first press Record, as measured by Scryboard's servers (from when transcription starts, the transcript saved, and the recording time your browser reports). Free time on sessions that were never charged adds up over the same 24 hours, so several short sessions in a row use a session too. Each session is charged at most once, and ending a session, or not using all of its time, doesn't give the session back.
Recording stops when a session reaches its limit (6 or 12 hours of recording, as above); to keep going, start a new session, which uses another one. Paused time doesn't count towards the limit, and recording pauses itself after 20 minutes with nobody speaking. If you run out of sessions partway through, recording stops until you buy more.
Your own AI key
For a session on your own key, the in-session AI (live analysis, rules and combat help, and the recap) runs on the account you connected in Settings with Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter. That provider bills you directly, under its own terms and at its own prices; those charges are between you and the provider, are not part of what you pay Scryboard, and are not refunded by Scryboard. You're responsible for keeping the key valid and funded. If the key stops working, the AI features stop until you fix it or switch to Scryboard's AI; a session that has already been used stays used. Scryboard stores your key encrypted and uses it only for your own sessions.
Refunds
All sales are final: sessions, used or unused, aren't refundable, except where the law where you live says otherwise. If a session went wrong because of a problem on our side, contact us and we'll look at it; we may, at our discretion, give the session back or refund it. If we refund a purchase, the unused sessions from that purchase are removed from your account.
Disputed payments
Please contact us before disputing a payment with your bank or card issuer; we'd rather sort it out directly. If a payment is disputed, the sessions from that purchase are removed from your account, even if that takes your balance below zero, and you can't start paid sessions until it's back above zero. If the dispute is decided in your favor you keep your refund; if it's decided in ours, we'll put the sessions back.
8. The App Marketplace and third-party apps
Apps listed on the Marketplace are created by third parties, not Scryboard. Listings go through a review before being published, but that review does not guarantee an app is safe, bug-free, or fit for any particular purpose.
Apps run entirely on your own device (or a companion program you install), never on Scryboard's servers. You install and run any app at your own risk, and you're responsible for reviewing what data an app declares it accesses before granting it a token.
If you submit an app to the Marketplace, you're responsible for what it does, and you represent that you have the right to distribute it and any content it reproduces (including that it doesn't infringe anyone else's intellectual property).
9. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service to violate the law, infringe someone else's rights, distribute malicious software, attempt to access another user's campaign data without authorization, or interfere with the Service's normal operation.
10. Intellectual property
Scryboard's name, branding, and underlying software are owned by Scryboard and its licensors. These terms don't grant you any rights to them beyond what's needed to use the Service normally.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Scryboard doesn't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated output will be accurate.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scryboard is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including damages arising from a third-party app you chose to install and run.
13. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. Scryboard may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
14. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the Service evolves, especially as new features (like paid Marketplace listings) launch. A change to prices never affects sessions you have already bought. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms, a purchase or a session can be sent to the Scryboard team through the Contact page.
